The Texas Department of Public Safety Director acknowledged Friday that police made the wrong decision when they responded to the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, because no children were at risk in the classroom where the shooter had barricaded himself in.
The police on the scene thought the situation was a barricaded suspect and they had time to wait for tactical teams to arrive and get the keys to the classroom from the janitor.
The teacher propped the door open so that Ramos could enter the school.
The officers on the scene believed there was no risk to other children because there may not be anyone living anymore.
A student in one of the classrooms called the emergency number at 12:36 p.m., telling the operator that he shot the door, before calling back at 12:46 p.m. and 12:47 p.m.
