A judge on Friday dismissed a federal lawsuit by Donald Trump that sought to bar a civil investigation of his business by the New York Attorney General.

A day after a state appeals court in New York upheld subpoenas issued by James, a district judge in the U.S. ruled against her.

The Trump Organization and Trump sued James in the Northern District of New York. The suit claimed that the attorney general violated their rights with her investigation into the company.

James' comments about Trump when she ran for office and after her election showed she was retaliating against him.

In her ruling Friday, Sannes wrote, "Plaintiffs could have raised the claims and requested the relief they seek in the federal action in state court in Manhattan."

There are many issues related to the investigation in the Manhattan Supreme Court.

Lawyers for Trump didn't respond to requests for comment.

The office of James said it would issue a statement on the ruling.
