R.I.P. Depeche Mode member Andrew Fletcher

Andrew was a founding member of the English electronic band Depeche Mode. Rolling Stone got confirmation that he died from natural causes, but a statement from the band simply referred to his passing.

Composition Of Sound was the group that would become the Depeche Mode. The band name was changed to Depeche Mode when singer Dave Gahan joined. The band had hits in the U.K. and the United States.

It was a running joke around the band that the bass and keyboard player was named Fletcher. According to Rolling Stone, in the 1989 documentary 101, the singer, the writer, and the guitarist are all named Dave, Martin, and Alan.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 was forced to cancel an extravagant live event and a series of celebratory concert performances because of COVID, which forced the organizers to instead use a series of low-key videos. While this may have been a disappointment for some, the members of Depeche Mode turned it into a delightfully endearing Zoom call in which the electronic musicians interrupted each other and marveled at the ability to communicate with each other on video.
