The New York Times reported that the manufacturer of the rifle used in the Texas school shooting received $3.1 million in aid from the US government.

The emergency small business aid was given to Daniel Defense in April 2020. The $3.1 million loan was granted days after the fund opened. 200 employees were supported by it.

The Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, was the scene of a shooting on May 24. Daniel Defense made the weapon that the shooter purchased shortly after his 18th birthday.

The loan was made by Cadance Bank and overseen by the Small Business Administration.

The loan was paid off by the federal government in June 2021.

Daniel Defense did not respond immediately to Insider's request for comment.

The company promised to cooperate with federal, state, and local law enforcement in a statement posted on its website. We are sad about the tragic events in Texas this week.

According to the New York Times analysis of government data, the gun and ammunition industry took loans of $125 million.
