According to local media, Rinat Akhmetov, the richest man in Ukraine, plans to file a lawsuit against Russia for up to $20 billion in losses after his steel plants in Mariupol were damaged.

The Azovstal steel plant in the southern port city of Mariupol was damaged in the bombing and shelling of Russian forces.

Akhmetov told the Ukrainian news portal mrpl.city that they will definitely file a lawsuit against Russia.

The Azovstal steel plant came under attack for weeks before the Ukrainian troops were evacuated.

The Illich Steel and Iron Works have suffered damage due to Russian aggression.

The net worth of the man is $6.93 billion. His wealth has fallen 40% this year.

The country's largest steelmaker, Metinvest, announced that it wouldn't be able to fulfill contractual obligations after Russia invaded.

After the war ends, Metinvest will resume production, but will never operate under Russian rule, the company said in April.

Russia said last Friday that it is in complete control of Mariupol.
