If sanctions against Russia are lifted, Putin will open up grain andfertilizer exports.

An official statement from the Kremlin said that the Russian president made an offer in a phone call to the Italian prime minister.

Russia is ready to make a significant contribution to overcoming the food crisis through the export of grain andfertilizer, provided that politically motivated restrictions from the West are lifted, according to Putin.

The Italian Prime Minister's office said the two leaders talked about a shared solution to the ongoing food crisis.

The White House told the news agency that there were no discussions about the easing of sanctions against Russia. It didn't respond to Insider's request for comment outside regular business hours.

More than 20 million metric tons of grains have been stuck in Ukraine since the Black Sea ports were blocked by Russia.

A senior Russian government official said that the Kremlin would allow ships carrying food to leave Ukrainian ports in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. CNN reported that Ukraine called the suggestion clear blackmail.

The West is to blame for the food crisis as it has taken a number of illegal actions, according to the Kremlin.

They must cancel illegal decisions that prevent the chartering of ships, that prevent the export of grain, and so on, so that supplies can resume, Peskov told reporters.

According to a report, the Russian ambassador to the United Nations said on Thursday that there is a safe corridor that allows access to the key Odesa port in Ukraine. Before safe corridors can be used, Ukraine needs to demine the waters.

Russia suggested that sanctions be relaxed for food.

It is appalling that Putin is trying to hold the world to ransom, and he is weaponising hunger and lack of food amongst the poorer people around the world.

Lifting of sanctions, or any appeasement, which will make Putin stronger in the long term, is what we cannot have.
