Frank Ntilikina was a Knick between 2018 and 2021.

One of the most famous Finals streaks ended in 2021. During the NBA Finals between 1984 and 2020 there were at least one teammate of Shaquille O' Neal on one of the competing rosters. No one on last year's Suns or Bucks rosters had ever played with him. He's got a point, but that doesn't mean streaks aren't fun for fans. The stories surrounding the streaks give fans a great storyline to watch out for every year.

With the Warriors-Mavericks series going down tonight, we are in danger of seeing another NBA streak come to an end, one that has been going on for twice as long as the Shaq streak. This streak has been going on since the beginning of the NBA, and almost no one knows about it.

The New York Knicks haven't been to the NBA Finals since 1999 and haven't won a title since 1973, but at least one former Knicks player has appeared in every Finals since 1947. In the year 2021, it was Bobby Portis and Thanasis Antetokounmpo for the Bucks. J.R. Smith was the Lakers player in 2020. All the way back to the Philadelphia Warriors, where they played for the Knicks earlier in the1946-47 season. 1981 is the only year that gets skipped. It is a dilemma if this year should be considered.

Gerald Henderson and Eric Fernsten were both members of the Boston Celtics, but they never played for the Knicks before. Billy Paultz and Nathaniel had both played for the New York Nets, but that is as close as this gets. Many defenders of the streak claim that the streak is still on because Fernsten and Henderson both became Knicks later in their careers. I think it's a cop out.

Luka Don might become a Knick later in his career if Dallas loses tonight. We can count that out. This 39-year stretch of former Knicks in the Finals is still longer than the longest streak in NBA history, which was by the way, zero Knicks titles. If you still want to think about it, power to you. Who is in charge of what little solace a Knicks fan can take?
