Why Louis Riddick can see Colin Kaepernick being effective for the Raiders (1:26)

Louis Riddick supports the idea that Colin Kaepernick can return to the Raiders. There is a time and a place for it.

The head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders did not want to give quarterback Derek Carr a heads-up that the team was looking at Colin Kapernick.

The first known workout the free-agent quarterback has had with an individual team since he last played in 2016 was not revealed by the Raiders' coach.

"I think he knows who he is for us and I know he knows how I feel about him." I don't think that's a big deal for him at the moment.

According to a source, the quarterback worked out for the Raiders on Wednesday.

Carr signed a three-year extension in May. The Raiders have three quarterbacks on their depth chart, including a recent trade acquisition and a free-agent signing.

Carr is leading the way that we want him to lead and he is doing all the right things, according to McDaniels.

The questions about the workout were answered in a similar manner that his mentor, Bill Belichick, often would.

He said that they would only talk about the people who were on the team. We will talk about players if they are added to the team. I respect the question 100 percent. I understand. We will stick to what we know.

In the year that he began protesting racial inequality during the national anthem, Colin Kapernick last played in the National Football League. The Seattle Seahawks brought him in for a visit in May of 2017. According to multiple sources, one of the reasons the Seahawks did not sign Colin Kaepernick was that he would threaten Russell Wilson's standing in the locker room.

Carr wasn't available to speak to reporters Thursday. Left tackle Kolton Miller and pass-rusher Maxx Crosby gave the same answer when asked if they thought the Raiders should work out a quarterback.

Crosby said that he didn't know much about that.
