If you wanted to give Donaldson the benefit of the doubt, we have an answer for you. He blew it with his pathetic Notes App-ology on Thursday because after time to reflect on the situation, removed from the heat of the moment or whatever other excuse you want to use, he blew it.

It's not worth looking at the full text of Donaldson's apology, just the part where he lets the mask slip.

I meant no disrespect when I said my view of that exchange hasn't changed. In the past, it had never been an issue and now that it is, we have a mutual understanding.

Why are we here if Donaldson's view hasn't changed? You apologize for looking back at something, seeing that you were in the wrong, and asking forgiveness. That is what apologizing is.

Donaldson didn't do that, he doesn't get that, and it doesn't matter when there is perceived disrespect. This isn't like a bat flip or a hard slide at second base in a blowout, there isn't an interpretation to be made or a necessary attempt to bridge a cultural gap. There are two ways to respond when someone says that it was racist. One can apologize, admit ignorance, and pledge to do better. The other is to scream loudly and make a statement about how you don't have a racist bone in your body.

Donaldson may think that he has a mutual understanding, but that doesn't mean he's off the hook. It gives away that there is no mutual understanding when he says his view of the situation hasn't changed. It had been an issue. That is what Anderson was saying. It hadn't been an issue to Donaldson, the black rising star. If that isn't clear to Donaldson, he hasn't spent enough time thinking about it.

I hold his name in the highest regard because he was a true American hero.

He used it to antagonize Anderson. Donaldson should have served his one-game suspension and let everyone forget about his stupidity.

He let everyone know who he is.
