Roma boss Jose Mourinho celebrates winning the Europa Conference League final
Jose Mourinho has now won five European finals out of five

The Italian club's first major European trophy reduced Jose to tears, but he has enjoyed greater achievements in his managerial career.

Europe's third-tier club competition has been derided in some quarters, but the win over Feyenoord was more important than his two European titles with Porto and Inter Milan.

It is the first time a manager has won all three major European competitions in the same year.

Owen Hargreaves, a former Manchester United player, said that football is about winning.

He is a serial winner and he has brought this team to life.

Box office Mourinho delivers again

This was the 26th trophy of the managerial career of the man.

After a disappointing seventh-place finish in Serie A in 2020-21, he was tasked with building the club up.

It wasn't part of the plan to win the trophy. The plan was to build this team, it was the start of the project, according to Joe Cole.

The run to the final was not smooth, with the Portuguese coming under fire after an embarrassing 6-1 defeat by Bodo/Glimt in the group stage last October.

The great thing about my career is that, aside from the Manchester United, doing it with Porto, Inter and Roma is very, very, very special.

It is one thing to win when everyone expects it, but it is another to win when something feels truly special.

This is still in the history of Roma and mine. I was told Sir Alex and Giovanni Trapattoni had won trophies in different decades. It makes me feel old, but it is nice for my career.

The spirit and togetherness that has been installed by the man has helped the team bounce back and win the trophy for the first time in 14 years.

Cole says the hard work has just begun.

Roma have gone through a few managers, lost a direction and an identity. Jose loves the city but there is a way to leave.

These scenes are important for the people who have come through the ranks at the club.

Football is a religion there and they will feel like heroes, but this is the start of the journey. Jose will be back in the office, planning if they can have a go at the Europa League and get closer to titles.

'He's the best'

This was the first trophy for the Manchester United manager.

Chris Smalling was part of the United side that defeated Amsterdam in Sweden five years ago and he played a key role in the victory.

It was a long time since they had won a trophy when Smalling first arrived.

We knew how much it would mean to everyone at Roma.

Tammy Abraham gatecrashed Smalling's post- match interview on the pitch.

Abraham planted a kiss on Smalling's cheek after he said that he was the best.

The impact that Abraham has had in his first season in Italy with 27 goals, a European trophy and a place in the England squad has been remarkable.

I said when I came that I was going to help my team get to the final and win a trophy in my first season. Abraham credited his team-mates for their excellent performances.
