Animal researchers in the UK are trying to save species from extinction.
The Chester Zoo has a partnership with a tissue bank called Nature's SAFE to freeze genetic material from animals that pass away. According to a press release, their cells could be used to save species in the future.
Sue Walker, head of science at Chester Zoo, said in the release that the work of modern zoos like theirs has never been more important.
A few animals might be saved like in the movie. Small tissue samples from animals that have passed away at the zoo have been taken and frozen using liquid nitrogen for future use, according to the release.
It might be too late. Some scientists think humans are causing a mass extinction event like the one seen in dinosaurs, so there is no guarantee that every animal will survive.
Those left behind might follow in the footsteps of the dodo.
