The Pennsylvania election officials ordered a recount in the Republican Senate primary after an initial count found Mehmet Oz had won by 902 votes.
The Pennsylvania Department of State said that Oz had 31.21% of the vote, McCormick had 31.1% and Kathy Barnette had 24.66%.
If the winning candidate's vote total is less than half of the second-place candidate's, a recount is automatic.
The recount process needs to be completed by June 7 and the results must be submitted to the Secretary of State's office by noon the following day.
According to the department, the recount is expected to cost over $1 million.
It could help restore Trump's position as a Republican kingmaker after several other Trump-backed Republicans were defeated on Tuesday. When it became clear that counting in the Pennsylvania GOP Senate Primary would not be over quickly, Trump urged Oz to declare victory and made baseless accusations of voter fraud. Oz did not oppose the recount in his own primary, even though he sympathized with Trump's claims of fraud. Oz asked the supporters for their support against Fetterman, who was projected by the Associated Press to win the state's Democratic Senate primary by over 34 points.
Pennsylvania fraud claims are being dragged on by the vote count.
