Several key travel trends are game-changing in the industry according to the latest survey results. More countries are easing their restrictions and more people are booking their first trip after years of being unable to.

Both quantitative and qualitative surveys were conducted with airlines and travel agents. A robust view of the state of travel was provided by the input from more than 500 respondents in 8 languages and 20 countries.

The travel industry should watch out for the five key travel trends from the latest survey.

Revenge travel

There is demand for travel after the Pandemic and more people want to travel. Revenge travel, also known as consumers, is a knee-jerk reaction once restrictions have been lifted. Domestic and international travel demand is increasing.

According to a survey by American Express, more than 80% of respondents expect to spend the same or more on travel in the year 2022, compared to a typical year before the Pandemic. The majority of airlines and travel agents think people will spend more on travel in the future.

Travellers need experts

Travelers are hesitant to go on a trip due to the travel restrictions. They want the help of travel agents. These uncertainties allow companies to offer services that are flexible as well as support in navigating the travel requirements.

According to the respondents, organised trips through tour operators are becoming more popular. Valuable information and support in the decision-making process will benefit companies if they can build trust with customers.

Demand for eco-friendly travel options

Travelers are more likely to go for more eco-friendly travel options. Consumers are asking for information on how to make their trips more sustainable.

As the travel industry continues to recover, it is an opportunity to transform the travel industry for the better. According to a survey, 87% of consumers say sustainable travel is important to them, and 77% expect travel suppliers to provide more sustainable offers. Most travel agents and airlines think people will travel more sustainable in the future.

Travel is the new office culture

Business travel is a new form. Corporate travellers want to get to know their colleagues. According to a survey by the company, 98% of corporate travellers in 25 global markets that they questioned are excited to travel for work, with 80% worried that unless they increase the amount of business travel, their professional lives will suffer.

Business and leisure travel are both on the rise. In order to nurture the travel trend, policies, processes and technologies are needed.

Technology and collaboration

The post-COVID world requires fast adaptation. The travel industry will be driven by technology and collaboration. Travel companies need to invest in technologies that can automate the booking process to give them a better experience.

Travel agencies focus on investments in web/online technology, PoS technology andCRM systems while airlines focus on capabilities such as self-service, touchless travel, and artificial intelligence. According to the latest survey results, many airlines are focused on investments around the New Distribution Capability standard, as they expect it to help them deliver dynamic and personalized content, as well as increased revenue, particularly from premium and ancillary sales. Cross industry collaboration is important in managing the rapidly evolving environment.
