The all-electric version of Mercedes-Benz's premium G-Wagon off-roader has been shown off.
The brand is calling the move G-Turn and it allows the massive vehicle to spin around its own axis. A video of the feature shows a truck grinding its four wheels into a dirt track as it kicks up dust.
The quad motor powertrain of the EQG allows it to apply Torque to each of its four wheels on its own, with two sides moving in opposite directions, which makes it spin, much like a military tank.
Electric vehicles can have an advantage over their gas-powered counterparts, as evidenced by the impressive demo of the all-electric Hummer EV.
The first electric truck to pull such a stunt would be the EQG. Rivian showed off a similar tank turn back in 2019.
It is not known if the EQG will be able to pull off the stunt on a harder surface. It's going to be difficult on tires to move its wheels in different directions.
We don't know a lot about the new off-roader from Mercedes. According to Car and Driver, it will go on sale in 2024 and is rumored to start at $150,000.
The electric truck market is starting to heat up, with a number of big brands ramping up the hype for their upcoming vehicles, and in that increasingly crowded market, it may take some tricks like this one to differentiate any one offering.
