The Starlink satellite internet service has over 400,000 subscribers around the world, according to a presentation by Musk.
The company is growing subscribers for the service. Starlink said it had about 250,000 subscribers. At the beginning of the year, it said it had 145,000 subscribers. The figures include both businesses and consumers.
The Starlink network of satellites is designed to deliver high-speed internet anywhere on the globe. Through thousands of satellites, the company is building a system to deliver faster internet access.
The Starlink service is active in 48 states according to the presentation made during a call with the Federal Communications Commission. The company is aiming to expand service to most of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East next year.
There are only a few countries where the service is not listed on the Starlink website. Iran, China, and North Korea. Russia, Syria, and Venezuela.
About 2,500 Starlink satellites have been launched.
This year, the company expanded its Starlink service options. Starlink's base service is $110 a month, but there is an up-front cost for hardware. A $2,500 hardware option is included in the premium option. The company added a fee of $25 per month for users who relocate their satellite antenna, as well as a option that lets customers pause service.
The company signed deals with two air carriers to add Starlink to their aircraft. The company expects to start delivering service to commercial aircraft in about a year.
