Maryland residents can now add their driver's license or state ID to the Wallet app on the iPhone and Apple Watch to show proof of their identity or age. The feature was first launched in Arizona.
When the feature was launched in Arizona, Apple said it would be added to other U.S. states as well as the territory of Puerto Rico. Georgia, Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Utah were among the states that were planning to offer the feature to residents.
To add an ID to the phone, Maryland residents need to tap the button in the top-right corner of the app and follow the instructions. The user will be asked to take a photo of their face and then their driver's license or ID card will be scanned for verification.
The feature is only available in the U.S., and requires an Apple Watch Series 4 or later or an older version of watchOS. Apple hasn't said if the feature will launch in additional countries in the future.
The Wallet app can only be used at certain airports. Maryland residents must continue to have their physical driver's license or ID card with them, and law enforcement will not accept Maryland driver's licenses or ID, according to a question-and-answer section on the Motor Vehicle Administration website.
