Amazon Opens First Brick-and-Mortar Clothing Store Near LA

The world's largest online retailer is opening its first physical store on Wednesday.

The shop is located in California near Los Angeles. The company will only open stores if it has something original to offer. In Style's case, the new wrinkle is an app that lets shoppers Scan codes on displayed items, which employees fetch in the right size or color and then send to a fitting room or checkout counter.

Amazon sells basic clothing items like packs of t-shirts. It has had less success in courting fashion brands. According to the outlet's website, the new store will sell brands like Steve Madden and Levi's.

The opening comes two months after Amazon said it was closing dozens of physical bookstores and pop-up kiosks in order to focus on its chain of Fresh supermarkets.
