Despite a bad month for cryptocurrencies, venture backers are still amassing capital to create new companies in the space.

A16z has a mega-fund of $4.5 billion. The second fund of Soona Amhaz's Volt Capital is being placed bets on by the firm's executives. Amhaz's $10 million vehicle dedicated to investments in the crypto sector was launched just over a year ago.

Other backers of the firm include Elad Gil and Albert Wegner.

It has been a wild bull run for the space, but onlookers worry that the sector is on the verge of a long downturn.

Amhaz sees a lot of challenges in the sector, but her team's strengths, which include technical expertise, engineering and community building, continue to be great assets.

Amhaz says that a downturn will separate the wheat from the chaff in the industry, as a lot of firms have been skeptical of the space.

Amhaz said in an interview that tourists will get washed out quickly.
