Biden to address nation after Texas man kills 14 students, 1 teacher at elementary school

Hours after a shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, President Joe Biden will deliver a prime time address.

Biden is going to speak from the White House. Time. He ordered that the U.S. flag be flown at half staff at the White House.

The suspected shooter was killed in the law enforcement response to the Robb Elementary School attack.

The White House communications director Kate Bedingfield said that Biden spoke to Abbott and offered any and all assistance he needed to respond to the shooting.

Sandy Hook Elementary was the scene of the 2012 massacre. It is the second mass shooting to rock the country in 10 days, following an attack at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York.

The victims of the shooting received sympathy from elected officials. The supporters of stricter gun safety measures expressed outrage that a killer used firearms in a school massacre.

Nancy Pelosi called the shooting a cold-blooded massacre.

For too long, some in Congress have offered hollow words after these shootings while opposing all efforts to save lives.

In a Senate floor speech, Sen. Chris Murphy urged his colleagues to take meaningful action to address gun violence.

Why do you spend all this time running for the United States Senate, when you could be in a position of authority if the slaughter increases, as our kids run for their lives?

What are we doing? Why are you here if you can't solve this problem?

Murphy said that he was here on the floor to beg, to get down on his hands and knees. We need to find a way to make this less likely.

Murphy was on his way off the Senate floor when he rejected the idea that the problem was mental illness, not the prevalence of firearms in America.

Murphy told reporters that we don't have any more mental illness than any other country.

Ted Cruz said that reform of gun laws was not the solution to mass murder.

Inevitably, when there is a murder of this kind, politicians try to politicize it. That doesn't work. It isn't effective.
