George W. Bush stands at a lectern with his hands in front of him

Shihab Shihab, an Iraqi citizen living in Columbus, Ohio, was charged with participating in a conspiracy to murder former President George W. Bush.

Federal prosecutors said that Shihab entered the US on a visitor visa in 2020 and that he filed an asylum claim a year later. Prosecutors said that he was working for a conspiracy to smuggle assassins over the U.S.-Mexico border, but that he was a restaurant worker in Columbus and Indianapolis.

The conspirators felt that Bush was responsible for killing many Iraqis and breaking apart the entire country of Iraq, according to an FBI agent.

Forbes reported that the FBI was able to track the alleged Isis contact because he was sending messages to co-conspirators on his phone. Federal law enforcement used two different confidential sources to track Shihab. The FBI said the suspect asked one of the confidential sources if he knew how to get replica law enforcement IDs or if they knew how to get the conspirators out of the country.

The FBI said that Shihab had a plan to bring four Iraqi nationals into the U.S., who he said were political exiles from Saddam Hussein's party.
