Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars.

Star Wars made it clear from the beginning that there was no love lost between Owen and Obi-Wan. A crazy old man is being called by a man and trying to get a man to pay him. Which, of course, doesn't work. The relationship got a new twist in the most recent trailer for Disney+'s Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi.

One of the highlights of the recent trailer was Obi-Wan talking to the younger Owen and saying that he must be trained. Lucasfilm released a bit more of the scene after the insane burn became a meme. Check it out.

I think we can concentrate on the other aspects since the father comment has already been said. The events of A New Hope were known to the audience when Obi-Wan brought Luke to Tatooine. We didn't know what Obi-Wan's mindset was. What were his expectations when he separated the child from his sister and hid him? He wasn't just leaving to live his own life and be safe, he was also leaving to live his own life and be safe. Owen calls it showing, because he was waiting on him to show signs of his ability. I think that's a fascinating take.

Obi-Wan has the fate of the galaxy on his mind. He wants the New Hope to learn how to use the Force. Owen does not. At some point, Owen's way will win and Ben will let him be. As a result, it's the other way around, that's who comes to Ben. This is a choice that Obi-Wan did not want him to have, and it seems like a very important choice that character must make for himself.
