The BBC News ticker displays the text "Manchester United are rubbish"

The news channel broadcasted a message saying Manchester United are rubbish.

The text popped up on the news ticker at the bottom of the screen during a tennis update.

Annita Mcveigh apologized to Manchester United fans who may have been offended.

She said that the mistake occurred as someone was learning how to operate the ticker and was writing random things.

There was a message on the ticker that said "Weather rain everywhere".

Mcveigh told viewers that some of them may have noticed something unusual on the ticker that runs along the bottom of the screen with news making a comment about Manchester United.

Behind the scenes, someone was training to learn how to use the ticker and to put text on the ticker, so they were just writing random things not in earnest and that comment appeared.

If you saw that and you were offended, I apologize and I am a fan of Manchester United.

It wasn't meant to appear on the screen. We thought we would better explain that to you.

Apology by BBC News after a trainee, learning how to put text on the ticker (the headlines that run along the bottom of the screen) accidentally published the words "Manchester United are rubbish" live on the broadcast...
