The upcoming second-generation AirPods Pro charging case will still feature a Lightning port, as Apple plans to switch the iPhone 15 and a number of its accessories to a new type of cable, according to reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
The second-generation of the AirPods Pro will launch in the second half of this year, according to a series of statements made by Kuo. In the last few weeks, there has been information that Apple is testing a new accessory for the iPhone 15 called the MagSafe battery pack, which still has the Lightning connection.
The upcoming Air Pods Pro won't mark the start of the transition to the new wireless charging technology. The high-end $550 AirPods Max have a Lightning port for charging.
The first update to the Air Pods Pro will be the second generation. The new models are expected to have a stemless design similar to the Beats Fit Pro.
