There is a lot of work to be done if the Washington Commanders want to keep Terry McLaurin long-term.

The two sides remain far apart in contract negotiations according to the Washington Post.

The first workout of organized team activities was held on Monday, but McLaurin was not present and has been absent from workouts since the end of April.

The talks between Washington and the Ohio State product could get explosive, with reason for concern for Commanders fans.

The fact that we haven't heard a peep about them getting anywhere near a trade should scare Commanders fans, given how much turmoil we have already seen at that position.

There has been a lot of movement at the wide receiver position. A.J. Brown was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, Allen Robinson was traded to the Los Angeles Rams, and Amari Cooper was traded to the Cleveland Browns.

If McLaurin is traded, he will bolster the aerial attack of any team.

He finished the season with 77 catches for 1,053 yards and five touchdown, and had more than 1,000 receiving yards for the second year in a row.

His contract situation makes Washington's decision to draft Penn State's Jahan Dotson with a first-round pick all the more noteworthy.

If the team cannot make something work with its No. 1 wide receiver, Dotson may be asked to quickly develop into a go-to option.
