Djokovic: All England Club's ban on Russian and Belarusian players a 'lose-lose situation' (2:03)

The decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players from Wimbledon this year was disagreeable by Novak Djokovic. There is a time and a place.

The All England Club banned Russian and Belarusian players from this year's Wimbledon due to their involvement in a match-fixing scandal. The decision not to award ranking points at the event was understood by the player.

Without getting a chance to play and defend my 4,000 points, I will be dropping out of the Australian and Wimbledon tournaments. The two-time defending champion at the All England Club said that he had been negatively affected by that and had spoken with the president of the ATP.

When there is a mistake happening, and there is from the Wimbledon side, the players showed the Grand Slam that by getting together with the governing body of the men's tennis.

Russia began attacking Ukraine in February. The All England Club decided not to allow players from Russia or Belarus to participate in the third Grand Slam. No ranking points will be given to any players who perform poorly at Wimbledon.

He said he was disappointed in the lack of communication from the tournament or any attempt to find common ground, but that he had heard of an exhibition event for the banned players to run concurrently with the major.

It was a sensitive subject, and ultimately, it was called a "lose-lose situation for everyone".

He said that anything that you decide, it will create a lot of conflict and separation.

Naomi Osaka said she was considering skipping the event due to the lack of awardable points, but Novak Djokovic said he was still planning on playing at the major.

There are some guys that are not going to have a chance to earn points. A Grand Slam is still a Grand Slam. When I was a child, Wimbledon was my dream tournament.

I don't look at it through the lens of points or prize money. For me, it is something else.

While he will lose points at Wimbledon, as he did at the Australian Open following his deportation from the country, he will have his chance to defend his title at the French Open.

He will face the winner of Tuesday's match between Alex Molcan and Federico Coria in the second round.
