The judge pointed out that the accused Capitol rioter needs to hold off on traveling abroad until he faces charges of assault on a police officer.

While the Court does not begrudge the business success of the man while on release, he will need to wait until he is no longer facing felony charges for ill-advised domestic travel in January 2021.

Owens didn't ask for her permission to go until after he already booked flights for himself and his wife, and that's not good for her. The travel was described as a corporate meeting by the Owens attorney. The trip seemed to be a sales perk for Owens, according to the judge.

The data Owens used to make his decisions was "furnished" with such business-critical data as his t-shirt and shoe sizes.

The approach to nonessential foreign travel by defendants facing federal felony charges would be similar to the one taken by Owens.

Owens and his son are accused of attacking officers during the January 6, 2021 insurrection. Two men are accused of attacking a cop with skateboards and shoving a police officer. The most serious of the charges against Owens is related to obstructing an officer.

There were a number of January 6 cases overseen by Howell. She quickly rejected travel requests from other defendants as well. She dislikes federal prosecutors for not pressing for large fines on Capitol rioters.
