The House Ethics Committee is investigating Madison Cawthorn for possibly improper promotion of acryptocurrencies in which he may have had an undisclosed financial interest.

The committee is looking into whether the North Carolina Republican had an improper relationship with a person employed by his congressional staff.

The probe was authorized by a unanimous vote of the Ethics Committee. The congressman narrowly lost a GOP primary and was denied a second term.

Cawthorn had an embarrassing series of events. He was charged with carrying a loaded handgun at an airport and with driving with a revoked license. He said he was a victim of blackmail after a video appeared to show him naked in bed with another man.

Cawthorn incensed fellow Republicans in Congress by claiming that some of his older colleagues had invited him to orgies and used cocaine in front of him.

In response to the Ethics, Cawthorn's chief of staff said that the congressman committed no wrongdoing and that he was wrongly accused of political gain.

Harp said that the inquiry, which will be conducted by an investigative subcommittee, is a formality.

The office isn't deterred from completing the job the people of Western North Carolina sent them to do.

In late April, Sen. Tillis called for the Ethics Committee to investigate Cawthorn for possible insider trading. The Washington Examiner reported that Cawthorn may have broken the law.

The Let's Go Brandon coin was named after a derogatory phrase toward President Joe Biden.

Cawthorn replied to a photo of him with the co-founders of the coin on December 29th, saying that they would go to the moon.

The Let's Go Brandon coin was signed as the primary partner by the team for Brandon Brown. After the announcement, the price of the coin went up by 75%.

The president of a political action committee filed an ethics complaint against him around the same time that Tillis called for a probe of Cawthorn.

Mr. Smith lives with Rep. Cawthorn and there is a personal relationship between them, separate and apart from the professional relationship of employer.

Smith is a cousin of Cawthorn, according to his spokesman.

The House Ethics Committee voted against empaneling an investigative subcommittee to investigate Cawthorn over charges of driving with a revoked license and speeding in North Carolina.

The committee said that Representative Cawthorn paid a fine to resolve one of the charges and plans to pay any fines associated with the remaining charges.

The Committee believes that the handling of the matter by local authorities is sufficient given the facts.
