Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy in a clip from The Boys Season 3.

Prime Video's superhero series The Boys has been a bloody, anarchic romp that has been built up. The third season looks to be as bloody and absurd as ever, with Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, who is also Captain America, but a dick.

Ahead of the show's return next week, series creator Eric Kripke and Ackles talked to Entertainment Weekly about what to expect. He is intended to be a villain who complicates things for the Boys and the superhero group The Seven. The world's first superhero was created by the Vought Corporation during World War II. He is a walking, talking figure of macho American history. The figures that they are using to create fear and panic are Americans.

It sounds like The Boys will be poking fun at America's culture and government even more in the new season. The attempted January 6 insurrection in the country was at the top of Kripke's mind when he and the writers were mapping out the season. America's government and right-wing media outlets have become successful in fostering growing feelings of xenophobia and racism across the country in recent years, and that is the perfect kind of storyline for the show to tackle. We are trying to call attention to what is bullshit.

The best way to do that is through Soldier Boy, who Ackles calls Captain America if he gave up superheroism and was just your drunk and inappropriate uncle. The trailers have shown Soldier cracking heads, but it sounds like there is more to come for the show. As Ackles said, there was one part of his character's story that made him call Kripke and admit that he was uncomfortable with the script.

Prime Video will show three episodes of The Boys on June 3.
