This week, TikTok launched a new program called TikTok LIVE that will allow creators to make recurring revenue from their fans. The new service will offer a range of perks similar to those offered by other streaming sites.

According to information published by TikTok to its@TikTokLIVE_ creator account, the program will launch on May 26 with a select number of creators who have been invited to participate.

The Information first reported that TikTok was considering a move into the subscription space back in January, but specific details weren't known at the time.

Over the past week or so, TikTok has been teasing the program on the creator channel, which focuses on sharing updates for the community.

Subscribers will be able to control the cameras on creators' livestreams, in addition to the usual subscriber benefits, as we learned in a series of videos. The badges will update the longer a viewer is subscribed to give long-term subscribers more visibility, and creators will be able to personalize their LIVE rooms.

A number of creators have begun to share the news with their fans on social media. The program isn't limited to game streamers. It appears that TikTok has invited a wide range of creators to try out subscriptions, including artists, vloggers, beauty experts, and more. Each have their own custom-designed emotes.

Once set up, creators will have the option to turn their TikTok LIVE streams into a subscription-only mode that would only allow paid subscribers the ability to comment, though anyone could watch. This could help creators get to know their best fans, as well as offer exclusive fan Q&A's, and possibly limit trolly, given that people would have to subscribe to post comments.

The revenue share with TikTok is the same as it is on twitch, and the pricing for these streams has yet to be announced. A report says that a 30%- 50% cut of subscription revenue may be changing, but it's not clear.

The creators who announced their participation on the creator channel have so far included:

Competition for creator talent is heating up, with top social platforms offering direct payments and bonuses designed to encourage creators to post original content to their apps. Social platforms know the best way to attract and retain talent is to give creators tools to earn a living through their work. With subscriptions, creators can tap into recurring revenue streams that help them continue to fund their efforts without having to rely on less predictable income like bonuses, virtual tips from fans or brand deals.

TikTok is not the only platform that is entering the subscriptions market. The first test of creator subscriptions in the U.S. was launched in January of this year. The ability for creators to host Super Follows-only Spaces for their fans has been added to the Super Follows platform.

The creators of TikTok must be at least 18 years of age and have at least 1,000 followers in order to access the LIVE subscription feature. To send Coins and Gifts, users must be over 18.
