Despite opting to sign a new contract and stay at Paris St-Germain, Kylian Mbappe still dreams of one day playing for Real Madrid.

In an interview with Guillem Balague on Monday, Mbappe said that he was open to a move to Real later in his career.

He said that you never know what can happen in the future.

I signed a new contract for three more years at Paris St-Germain and I only think about the present.

When asked if signing the contract meant the Real Madrid dream was over, Mbappe said: "Never over."

'To be a great player you have to be honest'

Kylian Mbappe's new deal keeps him at PSG until 2025

The deal was called scandalous by Spain's La Liga.

The 19-year-old said he spoke to Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, to inform him of his decision before signing a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain.

He said that he decided to stay last week.

I spoke to the president of Real Madrid because I have a lot of respect for him. It was important for me to say that I was not going to go.

To be a great player you have to be honest and we have a good relationship.

'I've always stayed focused on the pitch'

Speculation about the future of the forward began at the end of the season, but he never let it distract him from his duty on the pitch.

The 19-year-old scored 28 goals in the first half of the season to help the Parisians win the title.

He said that he was 100% focused on his game.

I did not have to follow the speculation. I was focused on my individual and collective goals during the season.

When the season was over, it was important to stay focused on the pitch and make my decision.

'I want to give pleasure to people'

After winning the World Cup with France, Kylian Mbappe is looking forward to playing in more important games for his club and country.

He said that he has played in amazing games and important games and that he wants to continue this way.

I always want to give pleasure to people because I was young and in the stadium and I enjoyed the time when I came to watch some players and now it is my turn to give pleasure to people and be respectful on and off the pitch.

I try to be an example because I know a lot of young guys watch me all the time and I want to give them the best way to enjoy life even if it is not as a football player. You have to stay focused on the real things in life.

Staying in France key for Mbappe

Speaking earlier on Monday in a news conference, Mbappe said his decision to remain at Paris Saint-Germain was partly based on sentimental reasons and that there are more wonderful chapters to write at the club.

He said leaving his country isn't the right thing.

There is a sentimental aspect to this. It's my country.

The ongoing project has changed as well. I think my story is still going on and I want to stay here.

That goes for me individually and collectively. There are many more wonderful chapters to be written.

'We want to win the Champions League'

After starting his career at Monaco, Mbappe moved to Paris where he joined permanently.

He has won four titles and three cups at the club.

European glory can be achieved with the retention of Kylian Mbappe, according to the president of Paris Saint-Germain.

We want to make more trophies. He said that they want to win many more.

We want to win the league. We are on the same path with our sporting goals.

There had been reports that Paris Saint-Germain tried to convince Kylian Mbappe to stay.

The forward said that his sole focus is on the pitch and what he can do for the club.

I remain a footballer, who is part of a team, and I will not go beyond this role.

Everyone knows that last year I wanted to leave and I was convinced that it was the best choice, but the years go by and things change.

'Ligue 1 needs respect as well'

La Liga plans to file a complaint to Uefa and French and EU authorities after Kylian Mbappe decided to stay at Paris Saint-Germain.

As well as calling the deal scandalous, the president of La Liga said it threatens the economic viability of European football.

Maybe it is a good thing if Ligue 1 is doing better than La Liga.

Three or four years ago, La Liga was what it is today. I have respect for all the clubs, but we need to be respected as well.

The best player in the world is what matters to us. What other people are saying is not an issue. I am not listening to that.
