Colin Cantwell, the designer of the X-Wing, sits in a replica model at the Denver Air and Space Museum

Colin was the concept artist behind many Star Wars designs. His work included the X-Wing Starfighter, TIE Fighter, Star Destroyer, and the Death Star, but he had an incredible career before he collaborated with George Lucas on his films. He worked with Walter Cronkite during the 1969 moon landing. He died at 90.

He helped astronauts walk on the moon before working in science fiction for decades. He came up with the looks of the Y-Wings and Return of the Jedi, as well as the Imperial Shuttle, and he has a lot of impressive credits. He was a writer of science fiction.

A full-scale model of the X-Wing was on display at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver, Colorado, where Cantwell was invited to sign it. Although he hadn't been able to attend many events recently, signed prints of his concept art are still available on his website.
