Belgium has become the first country in the world to impose a mandatory 21-day quark for patients with monkeypox, a disease that is endemic to Africa.

The third case of the virus was reported Friday by the health authorities in Belgium. The country has recorded four local cases and 100 confirmed global infections as of Monday.

The compulsory measures only apply to patients with confirmed infections. If in contact with vulnerable people, close contacts are not required to self-isolate.

The government announcement said that if the injuries have not healed, the person will have to go into contact isolation.

The WHO said in a statement on its website Saturday that reported cases have no established travel links to endemic areas.

Based on currently available information, cases have mainly but not exclusively been identified amongst men who have sex with men seeking care in primary care and sexual health clinics.

We don't know what that is and how severe it will be. He said that it was likely that we would see more cases.

Most cases of monkeypox are mild and usually resolve within 2 to 4 weeks, but there is currently no proven vaccine. Some countries have already begun to stock up on the vaccine, which is 85% effective in preventing infections.

The new outbreak of coronaviruses is a warning to authorities to invest more resources into infectious diseases. He spoke on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, where political and business leaders have gathered this week to key global issues.
