The eagle has landed for desperate parents, and it couldn't have come at a better time. An emergency shipment of specialty formula arrived in the US on Sunday via military plane, which was able to carry around 78,000 pounds of Alfamino Infant and Alfamino Junior formula. The new load was brought in from Europe on President Biden's orders, but there are still not enough to replenish shelves across the country. Parents are having to drive hours to find formula because of a massive shortage at supermarkets right now. There are a variety of reasons for the shortage, including plants having to either shut down or stall production, but the government is working on getting those up and running again. After that, they will be sent to doctor's offices, pharmacies and hospitals, and then to grocery stores. It appears these shipments are allergy-sensitive, as parents have difficulty finding such products for their kids. The FDA has taken a number of measures to ease the high demand and short supply, including easing regulations of imports so more formula can be sent in. We are not reliant on just a few companies because the government is looking for more providers.
