After coming back from seven shots down on Sunday to force a playoff with Will Zalatoris, Justin Thomas won his second PGA Championship with two pars and a two-stroke victory.
The Wanamaker Trophy was added to by Thomas after he won the first playoff at the PGA Championship since 2011.
Thomas started the tournament with back-to-back 67s despite the poor draw. He made a back-nine charge on Sunday after shooting a 74 on Saturday. He finished with a 67 and was 5-under for the tournament.
Thomas was 14-1 to win the PGA Championship. His odds were 28-1 going into the final round.
Zalatoris, who began the day three back of Mito, finished a rollercoaster round of 71 to match Thomas.
A tee shot into the water on the 18th cost him a one-shot lead. He missed the playoff by making a double bogey.
The last time there was a playoff in a major was at the Masters. The longest major championship without a playoff was 19 straight.
