laura dern

The Internet can't believe it, but Laura Dern was just a young woman in the movie.

In a new interview with the Sunday Times, the actress claimed that she was just 23 when she starred in the original "JP" back in 1993 and that the age difference with her costar at the time was noted in a joking manner.

I am 20 years older than Laura, according to Neill, who was quoted as blurting out how much older he was. Which was an appropriate age difference for a leading man and lady.

It felt right to fall in love with Sam Neill. When we returned in a moment of cultural awareness about the patriarchy, I was surprised. We are not the same age.

One reason people latched on to this was that it was a commentary on the idea that a woman of Sam's age couldn't or wouldn't.

Laura didn't say this exactly, but that argument doesn't hold water next to the source material and considering Drs. Grant and Sattler are both in their 40s. Her character was supposed to be younger.

It's news to many that the film's young star, Laura Dern, was that young in the film. She looks older than she is in her mid 30s.

She might have been closer to 25 or 26 when the movie was shot, but people are still amazed that she was able to pass for much older back then. So, thanks?
