Last week, Highsnobiety arrived at Selfridges, London to celebrate 30 years of all things OBEY as part of founder Shepard Fairey's anniversary tour. While in the UK, we caught up with Fairey and, in collaboration with Selfridges, hosted a Q&A session that explored his brand's legacy and his relationship with the iconic department store.
The event was titled "An Evening of Dissent" and it was held inside The Bowl, Selfridges' free, indoor skate bowl.
"This collaboration came about because my clothing has been [in Selfridges] for 10 years," Fairey explained before adding that it was OBEY Europe's distributor, Simon Holmes, "thought that this made a lot of sense because my background is skateboarding, punk rock, hip-hop, and underground culture."
"It's a perfect backdrop for setting up who I am," Fairey said, referencing the bowl, "and what I've been doing for the last 30 years. It feels like a bit of my DNA."
