Donald Trump is leading a campaign of war against Black and Brown Americans, according to activist and scholar Cornel West.
In an op-ed in The Guardian following the mass shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, West said things haven't changed even after a summer of protests after the killing of George Floyd in 2020.
There was a display of multiracial solidarity after George Floyd's death. The US has been unable to fight against the neofascist challenge.
West said that Trump's forces have gotten bigger and are targeting people of color.
A man opened fire at a supermarket in New York, killing 10 people. The suspect, an 18 year-old white man, drove hours to the predominantly black community and was motivated by hate. The suspect is said to be a white nationalist who believes in a replacement theory.
Trump is not out there with a gun, but he is leading a campaign against black and coloured people. The electoral political system is where he is doing it. He isn't killing people. He is responsible for the context. West wrote that he is still the dominant figure.
The political activist was critical of both the Biden administration and Trump. West said that Democrats have been unable to pass any meaningful legislation to protect Black people because of the solidarity following Floyd's death.
He wrote that the Democratic party was not able to uphold voting rights for black people.
Biden was slammed by West for saying he doesn't think America is a racist country.
He said that race is the most important issue in the history of the country.
He said that the president can send a message by not preventing racist killings.
One of my major priorities is to ensure black people have their rights. If racists pick up on the message that politicians don't care about black people, we will end up where we are today.
