Kylian Mbappe signed a new three-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain, but LaLiga said it would file a complaint because he did not join Real Madrid.

The France international was expected to join Real at the end of the season after his existing deal expired.

Real were prepared to pay a signing-on fee of around 120 million dollars and a wage of around 20 million dollars to sign Kylian Mbappe. Their investment would have been about 300m.

The 19-year-old was presented on the pitch ahead of the match at home to Metz, where he scored a hat-trick, and said that he had decided to extend his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.

I believe that I can continue to grow at a club that provides everything necessary to perform at the highest level. I am very happy to continue to play in France, where I was born, where I have grown up, and where I have made my name.

LaLiga furious with 'scandalous' deal

The news of Mbappe's U-turn was met with a vociferous response from Spanish football authorities, who said they will complain to the European Union and French tax authorities over the matter.

This type of agreement attacks the economic viability of European football, putting at risk hundreds of thousands of jobs and sporting integrity, not only in European competitions, but also in domestic leagues.

It is scandalous that a club like Paris Saint-Germain, which last season reported losses of more than 200 million dollars, after accumulating losses of more than 700 million dollars in prior seasons.

For all of the above, LaLiga is going to file a complaint against Paris Saint-Germain before the competent bodies of the European Union, as well as the administrative and tax authorities in France.

The statement concluded that the behavior of the president of Paris Saint-Germain and his club endangers European football on the same level as the European Super League.

'PSG won't lose sleep over LaLiga legal action'

Tom Williams is a French football expert.

I don't think I have ever seen a rival championship object to a player signing a new contract in another championship. I am not a legal expect but I am not sure how LaLiga can affect this.

It is not the first time that Tebas has been critical of the way the club spends their money. Questions will be raised about the amount of money they are spending to hold onto Mbappe.

Is it a good thing for football that a small group of clubs are able to spend money like that? It does not feel like a good thing for the long-term health of the game.

Mbappe

In terms of the suggestions of legal action from LaLiga or anything like that, I think the directors won't be losing too much sleep.

I would like to thank the president for his trust, his understanding and his patience, I mentioned it in my statement announcing the contract.

I would like to thank all the fans of Paris Saint-Germain, both in France and around the world, for their support in recent months. We will make magic in Paris.

'Amazing milestone' in PSG's history

Kylian Mbappe becomes the highest-paid player in world football on wages of around 1 million a week after signing for Paris Saint-Germain. The club have made concessions over image rights with Mbappe in order to receive bonus payments for goals, Ballon d'Or honours and success.

PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino said last week he was adamant he and Mbappe will still be at the club next season

Kylian is an amazing milestone in the history of our club, and a wonderful moment for our fans around the world.

Since joining our family, Kylian has achieved greatness beyond his years. He will be the foundation of our club's future both on and off the field.

I am incredibly proud and happy that we will continue our wonderful journey together. For our fans and our club, the greatest chapters of our future lie ahead.

There are big questions over the future of Mauricio Pochettino and Leonardo. This summer, the French club wants to replace the Argentine with the Frenchman.

Why has Mbappe chosen to stay at PSG?

Money is obviously going to be a big motivating factor, but let's face it, Mbappe would have been well paid at Real Madrid as well.

You have to look at the sporting aspects of the project, they still haven't won the title they have been chasing for 10 years or more. It would be a huge boost for the French game if Kylian Mbappe was the key player for Paris Saint-Germain when they win the European Championship.

This is a huge boost for Ligue 1 at a time when it is desperately trying to save itself after the impact of Covid and trying to keep pace with the top five in Europe.

It is a big boost for the two clubs, but also the young man. It is a challenge for him to be the difference-maker, the guy that turns the club from a contender to a winner.
