Tiger Woods said he would assess whether to play the final 18 holes because of pain in his leg after he carded one of his worst scores at a major in the third round of the 104th PGA Championship on Saturday.

I am sore. Woods told the reporter that he knew that for a fact.

It was difficult for everyone in the third round because of the weather and winds at Southern Hills Country Club. Especially for Woods, who is playing in his second tour event since he was seriously hurt in a car crash.

After making five consecutive bogeys in a major for the second time, Tiger Woods made his only birdie of the round on the par-4 15th. He was 12 over after 54 holes at the PGA Championship, his worst score in his career.

Woods scratched and clawed his way to avoid missing the cut Friday and then said he hoped to go low Saturday to get himself back into contention. Woods had to play well over the final five holes of the third round to escape shooting 80 in a major for the third time in his storied career.

Woods said he couldn't get off the bogey train. I did not hit many good shots. I ended up with a high score.

When he returned to the tour for the first time in 17 months at the Masters in April, he posted his worst score at Augusta National, 6-over 78, in each of the last two rounds. The strength and endurance of his repaired right leg seemed to be an issue this week.

With an additional five weeks for his leg to heal, Woods was hoping for better results at Southern Hills. South Africa's Shaun Norris, who played with Woods on Saturday and shot a 4-over 74, said he felt sorry for him. You can see the type of person he is, that he pushes himself through all of the pain and grinds through everything. It is hard to see a guy like him struggle like that.

After hitting two balls into the water in the first six holes, Woods carded a triple-bogey 6 on the par 3 sixth hole, hoping to continue his momentum from Friday's back nine at Southern Hills.

The second hole was bogeyed by Woods after he hit his tee shot into the creek. He missed a 5-footer on the fourth. He was 32-for-32 on putts of 5 feet or less.

Woods said that he didn't hit the ball well and didn't get off to a good start. I thought I hit a good tee shot down 2 and ended up in the water, but I never got any kind of traction on my side.

Things got ugly there. The sixth hole was playing 218 yards straight into the wind. It might have been two clubs short for Woods to hit his shot off the tee. His ball was about 25 yards short of the hole and plopped into a creek, and Woods wasn't amused while walking down the sixth fairway.

Woods asked how far is it playing.

After taking a drop, Woods hit a wedge shot that went off the green. His chip shot was short. He needed two putts to get a triple bogey. It was his first triple bogey or worse in a major since he took a 10 on the 12th at the 2020 Masters. It was the fifth triple bogey or worse on a par 3 in his major career.

Woods had a bad day on the 11th hole in the second round. He has never carded a double bogey or worse on multiple par 3s in a major. He is 7 over on the par 3s in the tournament.

His worst nine-hole score at the PGA Championship was at 6-over 41, and he had additional bogeys on Nos. 7 and 9. He bogeyed the first two holes of the back nine.
