The expedition team lead Chen Lixin told the outlet that there are species that have never been reported or described before.
A senior engineer at the Institute of Karst Geology of the China Geological Survey told a state news outlet that there are three caves and an ancient forest at the site. NPR reported yesterday that there are about 30 similar massive sinkholes in the country.
The world over, isolated environments have long been creating interesting, unique plants and animals that adapt to their environment. The best known example is the Galapagos Islands, which have several native species found nowhere else.
