The astronauts on the International Space Station have opened the hatch of the Boeing Starliner, which has been stuck in a docking port for years.

A second commercial carrier is needed to ferry astronauts to and from the space station. 18 astronauts have been taken by the Crew Dragon since it completed the same test in 2019.

Three years ago, the Starliner failed to make it to the station. The software glitch caused it to travel onto the wrong path.

The launch of Starliner was free of major problems when it took off at 7 p.m. on Thursday. It did experience some issues. The United Launch Alliance is a venture of Boeing.

The astronauts were able to check out the capsule at 11:30 a.m. after it docked at the station a day later. Saturday.

The test mission did not take any crew up to the space station, but it was flying with a manikin called Rosie the Rocketeer. During World War II, Rosie wore a blue flight suit and red polka-dotted mask. The purpose of the human simulation was to collect data on cabin conditions.
