A runner in the Brooklyn Half Marathon died and five other runners were hospitalized Saturday as the temperature in New York City was expected to hit 90 degrees.
A man collapsed near the finish line of the race, according to the New York Times. He died at Coney Island Hospital.
The New York City Fire Department is unsure if the runner's death is related to the hot temperatures in the city.
The five people who were hospitalized were considered to be serious but not life threatening.
The temperatures were in the low 60s when the first half marathon started. The temperature was in the 70s by 11 a.m. Based on forecasts, it could get as high as 93 degrees.
