The grand slam was caught by a former Red Sox outfielder. (0:57)

9:25 PM ET

A former Boston player was seated atop the Green Monster as second baseman Trevor Story hit his second home run of the night.

Story, who hit three home runs in Boston's victory Thursday, launched a grand slam to give the Red Sox a four-run lead over Seattle.

The former left fielder sat atop the Green Monster instead of playing in front of it.

Seated in the first row of seats above the left-field wall, the 41-year-old Gomes, who played on Boston's 2013 World Series championship team, stood up and moved a step or two to his right before corralling the ball. He high-fived the fan next to him.

Is he expecting to get a home run ball?

The ball was sitting on the table in front of him. These are the best seats in the stadium.

There is some television work done by Gomes. He said it was the first time he caught a home run.

I beg them for the seats when I come to town, because I don't do pre or post game activities.

The man said he almost caught Story's third home run on Thursday.

He said that he was going to take it home and that he was going to make him sign it.

Will Middlebrooks, a former teammate, took notice of jonny Gomes catching the grand slam. He tackled it, but still counts.

The Red Sox won their third game in a row.
