My style signifier is a pair of Nike Space Hippies. They're made from recycled materials, and they're very comfortable and distinctive. They are in grey and orange. They are a staple along with my Ressence watch.

The last thing I bought was a set of speakers. I like to play music at the end of the day. They are spread evenly through the room in order to create a sound bath.

I rediscovered my love for live sports recently. I have become a partner in the San Antonio Spurs and have been to basketball games sitting courtside.

A meditation cushion from a Buddhist monk in Oita, Japan is the best souvenir I have brought home. He gave it to me when I stayed in his temple, which was 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 I got to live the life of a monk on that trip, meditating at 5am, cooking meals in his kitchen, and visiting the village where he performed rituals in people's homes. I use it a lot.

My style icon is a man. His designs look like no one else's, and his work is a reflection of him.

Obama O’s breakfast cereal box from 2008

The best gift I've given recently was a set of cereals, which I designed for our early investors and each member of our executive team to commemorate our IPO. Each one had a likeness of that person on it. I made 40 or so boxes. It was a tribute to Obama's breakfast cereals of 2008, which we sold to keepAirbnb afloat.

Battle Lines was the last music I downloaded. It is a mix of wistful lyrics, pop beats and synthesizer music.

My sketchbooks are the objects I would never part with. I use heavy paper to make them so that the ink doesn't bleed through the pages. I sketch first concepts for Neighborhood, a furniture line I did with Bernhardt, and I also draw people so that I have a written and visual record of meetings.

I have a collection of chairs. The Dutch designer Gerrit Rietveld, who broke the mold of what furniture was supposed to look like, is one of the designers who created many of the pieces. Rietveld's Red and Blue chair is one of the chairs I have. Billy Wilder, the director of the movie, used to nap on the daybed that I have.

You can always find maple syrup and butter in my fridge. I like to make pancakes for people who are staying with us, and I have a wide variety of different versions. I also have Hello Pure dog food for my puppy.

The thing I couldn't do without is my webcam. They have packaged DSLR-level quality into a camera that fits in your pocket.

I would never forgo the chance to see an installation by Christo and Jeanne-Claude anywhere in the world. I was in Paris for the Arc de Triomphe installation, Lake Iseo for The Floating Piers, and in New York to see The Gates in Central Park. I think it's the most profound public art. You can bet that I will be at the Mastaba, which will be bigger than the Great Pyramid.

I always include my Porter-Yoshida & Co briefcase, a black nylon model with plenty of compartments, in my carry-on essentials. It holds my Manta Sleep eye mask, which has an elastic strap so that no light slips in and is as soft as butter, as well as other important things. I always have my 16in MacBook Pro and my Leica M10 with me, so I can bring back some memories.

The last item of clothing I added to my wardrobe was a three-piece suit from Dolce & Gabbana. I wore it to the Met Gala.

If I could, I would collect the work of de Kooning. I am reading his biography and it shows that he had an incredible life, he grew up poor, made his way to America, helped to define the abstract expressionist art movement and lived the dream. I would like to see a painting from the woman series.

Davids toothpaste is my grooming staple. It is all-natural, tastes good and is packaged inaluminium so it is recyclable. I like things that aren't plastic. It comes with a tool that you attach to the end of the tube and roll up so that nothing is wasted.

TheChapel in Houston, Texas is my favourite building. It contains 14 murals by Mark Rothschild.

Peter Attia is a physician who helps me figure out what I should be eating. Myofascial massage is where they dig really deep into your muscles and find all of the problem spots and work them out. I have been looking for a new jujitsu trainer.

The non-profit side of our business is my favourite website. In times of crisis, we partner with people to house refugees. We have promised to host 100,000 people and right now, Ukraine is a huge focus. If you have an extra room, please sign up. We are focused on rooms in Europe, but anyone can help. The Oura app can be used to track my sleep. I average six and a half hours per night, and no matter what I do, I can change it.

I would have been a film director. The IOC Refugee Olympic team participated in last year's Tokyo games and I am starting to make a documentary about it. 29 athletes were from 11 countries and resided in 13 host nations. Their resilience is inspiring.

My gym is my favourite room in the house. I start my day here and it sets the tone; working out is my form of meditation and I am rarely distracted when I am doing it. I opened the door wide for natural light because it used to be a garage. It has a bench, cables, free weights, kettlebells, a leg press and an elliptical machine. I want to do three hours of cardiovascular work a week at a target heart rate of 125bpm.

The Eames Ranch is a place that means a lot to me. It is spread over 27 acres in Sonoma County and is surrounded by farmland with sheep and a llama. The original house and barn were designed by William Turnbull, and it is now the site of a non-profit I helped start. There are many of the original Charles and Ray Eames sketches, prototypes, films, books and textiles in this place.

Beth Garrabrant sells Pure dog food for $7.

CNN was the best place to get advice when I was in high school. I was watching an interview with Warren Buffet and I was expecting a stock pick, but instead he told me to invest myself. I never considered this concept before, but it is an important one.

I'm looking forward to going to the village of Mezzojuso in Sicily. My family came from this small, hillside village in the country and I visited once before to surprise them. We traced our family back to the 1700s after I worked with the mayor and council members to find old ledgers and birth certificates. I organised a party for the village, and we were granted citizenship, and my dad was in tears, being in the place where his grandfather had left in 1900.

The Truth: An Uncomfortable Book About Relationships is the best book I have read in the past year. It's a book of relationship advice and it's funny and full of observations on commitment, love and family. He recommended a talk I did with him at South By Southwest. It is a hilarious book.

I'm listening to Hidden Brain by NPR. It is all about psychology and helping us understand why we do what we do. The placebo effect is fascinating and my favourite episode is about it.

Brian Chesky gave a speech for my 40th birthday and it was the best gift I've received. In front of 180 people, he captured 22 years of our friendship in a funny and touching toast. The speech is on the wall of my office. Brian is a writer and a businessman.
