Apple hasn't even released the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models, but it looks like they are going to get a more moderate refresh than we've seen recently, and in the past years, they probably would have gotten an iPhone. There are some notable changes that are being bandied about at the moment, and we have already been hearing about them.
More than a year away, nothing is set in stone yet, but there are a few things that have been suggested. We have heard a lot about the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Pro, but keep in mind that it is early in the development cycle and Apple could change its plans.

The pill-and-hole cutout will be expanded to the entire lineup, according to rumors. The two cutout design rumored for the iPhone 14 Pro models would mean no notch for the iPhone 15 models.
It is not clear if the under-display Face ID system will be introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro models, as other sources have said that it will not be ready until at least 2020.
There are no major design changes expected, so Apple will likely continue to offer four models: the 6.1-inch iPhone 15, the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro, the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Max, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 15 models will be cheaper, but the pro models will have higher-end features and will be more expensive.
It is possible that Apple will swap the Lightning port on the iPhone 15 for a USB-C port, which would allow it to comply with European regulations that are in the process of being passed. The regulations would require Apple to either make a worldwide design swap or develop a special version of the phone for sale in Europe.
Reliable sources that include Mark Gurman and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have said that Apple is going to make a swap, so this is a strong possibility at the moment. It is possible that Apple's plans could change.
There have been multiple rumors about Apple working on a new type of lens that could be used in the next generation of the iPhone.
A standard telephoto lens can allow for 5x or even 10x optical zoom, but Periscope lens technology can allow for even more. The current Pro models are limited to 3x zoom, which would be greatly enhanced with a periscope lens.
The periscope lens technology used in the new phones from Apple andSamsung enables up to 100x digital zoom and up to 10x optical zoom.
Apple has been working to develop modem chips in house for the past few years, and in 2023 we could see Apple-designed chips debut. Apple is using modem chips from Qualcomm, but after a legal dispute, Apple wants to stop buying chips from them.
In November of 2021, the CFO of the company that makes the modem chips for Apple said that the company would only supply 20 percent of its modem chips in three years. According to an Apple analyst, Apple's chips could debut in the next generation of the phone.
If the A-series and M-series chips are any indication, Apple's modem chips will be comparable to or better than the 5G chips that Qualcomm is producing.
The A-series chip could be the first to be found in the iPhone 15 models. The technology is expected to increase processing performance by 10 to 15 percent and reduce power consumption by up to 30 percent.
TSMC is expected to begin 3nm chip production in 2022, which means it would be ready for launch in 2023.
If Apple follows its usual September launch schedule, the iPhone 15 models will be released in September 2023.
