There is a new brand of hotel opening in theMaldives on July 1st, 2022. with nearly every day on the calendar available for an award. There is a chance to get excellent value out of free night certificates.

The Deal

  • The Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa is opening July 1, 2022 and award nights are wide open.  At 110K Hilton Honors points per night for a standard room award, the property isn’t cheap, but this could be a great use of Hilton’s 5th night free or free night certificates earned from the Hilton credit cards.

Quick Thoughts

The hotel isn't open yet, so we don't know how it will look. The rendering look nice. Each room type at this property has a private pool of its own.

I think it is hard to go wrong at a new resort in theMaldives, even if it isn't as luxurious as the Waldorf-Astoria. Greg and I went to Le Meridien Maldives last year after it opened and we were blown away, I have known people who have gone more than once in the time since it opened, and who love it as much as I do. The base rooms at Le Meridien do not include plunge pools, which makes them cheaper than the ones at the new hotel. I think that the level of service at the new hotel is likely to be a step up in luxury, since I think it is hard to match the level of service at Le Meridien.

The standard room awards are open through the end of the schedule apart from the Christmas / New Year holiday period and a small handful of spring dates and I think this will be of interest to many readers. I am not surprised that standard room awards are wide open in July when the property opens, but it is nice to see awards so widely available in the future. It would be easy to get a 5-night stay next year and get the 5th night free, paying a net of 88,000 points per night.

The award rates are not cheap, but if you buy the points for a 5 night stay for $440 per night, it will be half the rate. Those with certificates that can be used any night of the week will be happy to use them here.

The hotel will be accessible via a speed boat transfer from the airport. That can be either a plus or a minus. It will be a little bit cheaper to get to this property on an adult round trip than it was to get there on a sea plane. The speed boat can be appealing to those who don't like the idea of a sea plane, for example, I read a story on Flyertalk of guests arriving at a resort after a particularly turbulent flight who needed assistance walking, and we encountered no notable turbulence. The flip side of that is that if you are close to the airport you can get more traffic overhead and in the nearby seas which can detract from the isolated feeling of the island.

It seems like it could be an exciting opportunity if you have a desire to travel to the Maldives. I don't think the award availability will last forever, so it makes sense to book sooner rather than later. Be sure to keep an eye on the cancellation policy.
