The Washington Post reported on Friday that the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas pressured two Arizona lawmakers to overturn Joe Biden's victory in the state in the 2020 presidential election.
Thomas told the lawmakers they had to take action to ensure that.
In the emails, Thomas urged the lawmakers to fight back against fraud and ensure the elections are free, fair and honest.
She asked the representatives to consider what will happen to the nation if they don't stand up and lead.
Lawmakers were asked to discuss the election results.
Bolick was one of several Arizona lawmakers who signed a resolution urging Congress to accept Arizona's 11 GOP electors for Trump or to void the state's electoral votes for Biden.
Bolick wrote on her verified account that she responded to Thomas' messages as I would to any constituent.
I urge you to do your Constitutional duty. Stand strong in the face of pressure. Thomas wrote in the email that he wanted to reflect on the authority granted to him by the constitution.
More than 10,000. The number of votes President Joe Biden won in the state of Arizona in the 2020 presidential election is shown in the official results.
The Post didn't get any email responses from Thomas. In a statement a month after Election Day, the Arizona House Speaker said he couldn't and wouldn't entertain a suggestion that we violate current law to change the outcome of a certified election.
The new emails come two months after the Post and CBS News obtained a host of text messages in which Thomas in November 2020 pressedMeadows to pursue efforts to overturn the election, after official results showed Biden had won the presidency. In the messages, Clarence Thomas asked Mark to help Trump stand firm, and he argued that Trump should not concede. The Trump campaign filed a number of unsuccessful lawsuits after the election. The Republican-led Senate hired a cybersecurity firm with no prior election auditing experience to review results in a county in Arizona where Trump pressed for audits. The election officials in Arizona released a report refuting almost every claim in the audit, which still confirmed Biden's victory.
The House January 6 Select Committee may ask Thomas to testify. The Post reported in March that the committee was going to interview Thomas in the wake of her texts.
The wife of a Supreme Court justice pressed Arizona lawmakers to help reverse Trump's loss.
The committee plans to ask Ginni Thomas about the 2020 election text.
