There is a high likelihood that the temporary injunction is illegal, according to the First District Court of Appeal.

Leon County Circuit Judge Layne Smith issued an injunction last week that said the new map was in violation of the Fair Districts Amendments in the state constitution.

The majority-minority district is located along the Georgia border and has more than 40% of the population being black.

The location of the district is unconstitutional because of how long it is.

The court said in its ruling that the stay of the temporary injunction was reinstated because of the exigency of the circumstances and the need for more certainty and continuity as election season approaches.

The Florida legislature approved a map last month that quickly drew condemnation from voting rights advocates and a lawsuit. Critics argue that the redrawn maps are gerrymandered to help the Republicans.

What To Watch For

A New York state court is set to finalize a new congressional map on Friday that could increase the power of the Republicans in the state. A judge struck down a proposed map that would have widened Democrats' advantage in New York after Republicans challenged it.

A judge in Florida has blocked a map that would affect black voters.
