Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira was involved in an altercation with a fan during a pitch invasion at Goodison Park.

A mass pitch invasion of fans was caused by the win over Palace that secured the survival of the club.

The Palace boss reacted angrily when a fan approached him on the pitch at the other side of the ground.

The statement from the police said that they were working with the football team to get all the available footage.

No formal complaint has been received and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Sky Sports News tried to reach Crystal Palace. The issue has not been commented on byEverton. The incident is being looked into by the FA.

When asked about it in his press conference, he said he had nothing to say.

The referee managed the pitch invasion well, according to the man.

Frank Lampard said that he didn't get Patrick to shake his hand at the end because of the reaction. He ran across the pitch in front of the fans. Our fans were ecstatic to stay in the league.

The incident took place on the same evening that Ben Garner claimed his players were physically and verbal abused by Port Vale supporters after their League Two play-off semi-final defeat at Vale Park.

Dion Dublin says there must be firm action taken against pitch invaders after Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira was confronted by Everton fans as he was walking off the pitch at full time.

We know that it is only the minority and one or two that ruin it for everyone else. The way forward is not to have fans on the pitch. We have to stop allowing fans onto the field. It is too dangerous.

What if you announce before the game that anyone who comes onto the pitch has a life ban? They will not go on the field because they love their club. You can either make everyone come on the pitch or make them hallowed turfs.

Fans need to enjoy the experience, not ruin it. Managers and players are afraid for their lives with fans following them. Fans with lifetime bans are the only way to avoid it. It is a scary place to be for any player or staff member.

If someone is in your face and you just lost a game, what do you do? I would probably do the same thing if someone was in my face.

It is difficult to put yourself in Patrick's position. It is difficult to say if Patrick should do this or not. I don't agree. What do you do if someone pushes you in your face?

We don't want something to happen that will make us leave. Let's do it now.

Nottingham Forest fan, Robert Biggs, has been jailed for 24 weeks for assaulting Sheffield United captain Billy Sharp at Tuesday's Championship play-off semi-final against Nottingham Forest.

On the same day as the incident at Goodison Park, Billy Sharp was sentenced to 24 weeks in jail for running on to the pitch to confront a supporter.

Sharp required four stitches to a wound to his lip after Robert Biggs admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was sentenced at the court.

The Blades fought back from a two-goal deficit on Tuesday to force extra-time and penalties, but their spirited fightback was ended in the penalty shoot-out when Forest's goalkeeper saved three spot-kicks.

The application for a football banning order was not opposed by the man in custody. He was told that the charge of illegally entering the playing surface had been dropped.

In addition to the compensation, Sharp was also ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge.
