According to Rich McHugh of Insider, a flight attendant was paid $250,000 in order to not file a lawsuit against Musk for sexual harassment.
Three years after the settlement, female employees still raise sexual harassment issues at Musk's companies.
In the past year alone, I have had to bring multiple different incidents of sexism to HR, according to an essay published in December on Lioness. Kosak started as an intern and later became an engineer.
She said that nothing was done after she flagged the incidents to HR. According to Kosak, the company promised mandatory training about sexual harassment, but it was too private to discuss with the perpetrators.
Kosak left the company in late November because of the stress that had mounted from her years of working there.
It is not clear if Musk was aware of Kosak's claims.
Insider reached out to Kosak.
According to The New York Times, there were other claims of sexual harassment as far back as ten years ago. A male coworker of a female intern was invited for drinks by his male housemate. The colleague became drunk and tried to force himself into her bathroom as she was showering, according to The Times.
According to The Times, the former intern was told that the only way to use the bathroom at SpaceX would be by people of the same sex.
Musk founded other companies that faced allegations of sexual harassment and harsh work conditions.
According to an Insider report in March, at least 24 women have sued the carmaker in the past five years, accusing them of sexual harassment, groped, or even physical assault. Some people said they were denied promotions and pay raises.
According to reports from Insider and The Washington Post, at least eight lawsuits were filed against the company by female workers.
According to The Post, six women filed individual lawsuits on December 14 accusing the company of fostering a culture of sexual harassment.
On December 8, an employee of the carmaker alleged that the company failed to stop a pattern of sexual harassment and retaliating against her.
A worker sued the company for operating like a frat house and subjecting female employees to sexual harassment.
It is not clear if Musk knew about these claims before.
Insider asked for comments from the two companies, but they did not immediately reply.
